The secret to good health is hidden in your daily routine!

Establishing a healthy daily routine doesn’t need to be boring. Think of it as a rhythm, a disciplined and goal oriented routine that, once you get a handle on it, will have fabulous results! The secret is to exercise to a plan, eat balanced meals, snack for energy, and hydrate the body (and the brain) throughout the day. Let me explain…

Exercise 3 days a week for consistent results

You know, the biggest mistake people make when they are starting out on an exercise program is that they don’t have a system or structure in place. They go at it relentlessly, burn out and become discouraged. This is not a good way to start an exercise program.

Ideally, you should pace yourself, train no more than 3 days per week on alternate days, and allow your body to rest and recover on non-training days. Training 3 days per week with a day of rest in between allows you to have more energy when you do train. This will sustain you for the long haul, and reward you with more consistent results.

Mum was right – eat 3 balanced meals a day

Remember the adage “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper”. Don’t be tempted to skip meals, thinking this will speed up or increase weight loss. In fact if you do this the opposite is true – your body will think it is being starved and will store more fat, ‘just in case’.

Eat three meals a day and make sure you have a balance of each food group on your plate. One portion each of protein, carbohydrate and fibre will give your body the energy it needs to function properly without resorting to fat storage.

Eat 3 nutritious snacks a day

If you feel peckish or ‘low’ between meals, that is your body telling you it needs energy. Snacking, as long as you eat foods which help maintain a high metabolic rate is perfectly okay. So go ahead and enjoy snacks such as a handful of dried fruit and nuts, fresh fruit or a pot of yoghurt (flavoured is fine, but make sure your yoghurt has lots of pro-biotic cultures/good bacteria).

Drink at least 3 litres of water a day

Water is vital to your health – without enough water, your brain cannot function well and your heart needs to work harder – your organs will be exhausted and so will you. Water clears the thinking process – we are less ‘cranky’, more alert and focused with the people we work and live with every day. Water (in between meals) also helps you to lose weight because it flushes out toxins and suppresses the appetite.

And did you know that proper hydration replenishes skin tissues, moisturises and increases skin elasticity? It’s true. You will have younger looking and more glowing skin, just by drinking more water and what’s more; you’ll feel more energetic when you do exercise, because it regulates your body temperature and fuels your muscles.

Lastly, water raises your metabolism; helping to ‘keep things moving’ so that you don’t suffer the discomfort of constipation.

You know, good advice is just a phone call away… my compliments, no strings 🙂
