The Power of Intent: the Challenge for Therapists

As often as I can, I speak to the young people who have chosen to train as beauty therapists. It is an exciting career which offers them the opportunity to travel and apply their skillsets virtually anywhere in the world. Yet one thing always comes up during question time: “What is the one thing that will set me apart?”

There really isn’t any secret to it. Yes, you must tick off all the boxes. And if you can secure pre-employment traineeship with a reputable salon your CV will be all the better for it! But as your experience and aspirations expand, what sets you apart?

Firstly this: understand that when you choose a profession which by its very nature engages physically, emotionally and spiritually with people – all the training and experience in the world won’t guarantee that clients will flock to your door. What really matters to them is…

The Power Of Intent

The power of intent is purely and simply in evidence when we as therapists stop asking “what’s in it for me?” and tune in to our clients: quietly observing their demeanour and listening to their (often unspoken) needs.

It is when we ‘enter their world’ and respond from the heart. In this, our profession is at its very best. It is also what rewards you on so many levels and ultimately sets you apart.

I wish you all a fabulous life and a meaningful career ~ Saroj
