What’s the best time for Ayurvedic Massage?

Greetings Saroj. Just to let you know, I absolutely love my new job, thanks for asking! I’ve met some lovely people here and one of them (Sue) is keen to come for a massage with you. She finishes about 4pm… can she book with you then or is that too late? Does it matter what time?

Thank you, Peta

Best time for Ayurvedic Massage

I was so pleased to hear that Peta was settling in with her new firm and making friends. I called her soon after, thanked her very much for the recommendation, caught up more personally and answered her questions… but here’s the gist:

With injury-related massages, the purpose is Remedial

If you have muscle-specific injuries (sport or work-related for instance) your GP may recommend remedial massage as part of your recovery. He or she will assess where you need treatment and what may be causing your pain, perform tests to see exactly which muscles are affected and tailor a treatment plan to suit. The time of day for this is not as important as just following through with your GP’s recommendations.

Ayurvedic massages, on the other hand, treat the human condition

Ayurvedic massages de-stress the mind as well as loosening the body; treating the mental and spiritual condition as well as the physical symptoms of life, family, relationship and work conditions.

Picking the right time for Ayurvedic massage

You would be right in thinking that Ayurvedic massages are at their most effective when we have concluded our day’s work and commitments and have the space to wind down, go home and take a bath or do whatever fulfils us without adding to our daily stress (for me that is food creation for my family but equally for you it may be something entirely different).

Finding time for yourself

My point is that Ayurvedic treatments are all about finding the space to be who we are… not in the middle of our busy day, a lunch break, a school run or obligations we’ve signed up to but at the conclusion of them. My advice is this: have your new friend finish her day and come to me… she will find peace without distraction.
