Merry Christmas from Prana

Our Christmas Bush seems to me to be such a colourful emblem of all we enjoy at this time of year. How abundant it is with its beautiful red berries! I quite forget enduring the cold of England in December (when it snowed it was magical but I have to say that was rare). These days, I bask in the warmth of an Australian Christmas and am ever grateful…

Christmas comes with mixed blessings… for working mums especially all the preparation, the shopping and cooking etc. can be quite draining physically and mentally. And all of it is gone in a flash – no wonder some of us need some TLC afterwards! Come. Q. Help! Saroj, can you help me get rid of cellulite?

A. Maeve, many women develop cellulite on their legs, buttocks or stomach. (I expect you know this already, but cellulite occurs when fat cells bulge through the skin’s outer layer, creating a dimpled appearance). The truth is, skincare treatments do not combat this condition. That said, I do recommend you talk to Agnelo, Prana’s Personal Trainer. As the mother of two boys I know that he can and will put a plan in place that you can live with and that will make a difference.

If it helps, there are 3 things I make sure to remember at home:

  1. Drink plenty of water. Hydration keeps your skin cells fresh and reduces the visible signs of cellulite. Drink at least 8 glasses per day, and begin when you awake (before you drink coffee or tea especially).
  2. Reduce your intake of bread, rice, and pasta and increase your intake of fruit and vegetables. Your skin’s appearance will improve almost immediately and you will feel less bloated after a meal. You will lose weight too, which by itself will dimish the appearance of cellulite.
  3. Eat ‘healthy’ fats. Healthy fats are in foods like olives, nuts, avocados, fish and olive oil. These are much better for you than fried, packaged, high salt and/or high sugar foods – not that you should punish yourself at Christmas – but just cut back a little. You will feel and look better in no time!
