Quiet intent: “tuning in” to people

We all see things differently, but nothing illustrates ‘quiet intent’ so much as two very different men who both came to me for an Indian Head Massage recently…

THE MAN FROM MADRAS

This client was visiting Australia from Madras (now known as Chennai) on business so in some respects he has much in common with the second. But there the similarity ends, because as he expressed to me “I was expecting much less than I am used to, be honest. But I am so pleased that you ‘tuned into’ me, as would be the case at home.” In other words he understood the deeply intuitive, quietly thoughtful nature of Indian Head Massage and I for one am grateful that, so far from home, he experienced it.

AND THE MAN WHO JUST WANTED ‘TIME OUT’ BUT FOUND SO MUCH MORE…

As I so often find (and perhaps you can relate to this), many of us in the West simply want ‘time out’; whether that is for Indian Head Massage or any other treatment. I certainly don’t’ criticise anyone for that – relaxing with a book, lazing on the beach (or in my case creating a meal for my family) restores us. Those things are not trivial.
The interesting thing here is that the neck pain, muscle stiffness and minor headaches he’d lived with for so long had become his ‘normal’. And when it abated, he left his response on Facebook. Thank you Ross!

WHATEVER YOU DO… THERAPY IS THE INTENT

Whatever you do, listen to ‘the engine turning over’. Like the very clever men (and it is generally men) who listen to my car engine turning over: listen, and discern what is really going on. They and I couldn’t be more further apart in skillsets and training but this I see: our aim is the same. Both of us listen with quiet intent, find the root cause of the problem, and home in on it!
