Ayurvedic Massage: embracing body, mind and soul

Devotees of massage will know that there are many types out there: aromatherapy, Swedish, Hawaiian, remedial and shiatsu, to name a few – and it can take several different styles and therapists to discover what you prefer.

That said, we also feel like different styles at different times… sometimes a firm massage is needed to relieve aching muscles whilst at other times we just need a gentle essential oil infused bliss-out!

About Ayurvedic massage

AYURVEDA itself is an ancient Indian health practice which encompasses diet, herbal medicine, acupuncture, aromatherapy, yoga, massage, meditation and the balancing of energies.

Essentially, it translates from Sanskrit as ‘the science of life’ or ‘life-knowledge’, though in a more secular Western world, we understand this as ‘holistic’. So it is… ancient coincides with modern!

However we came to think of it, this type of massage is hugely relaxing and is designed to work on the lymphatic system, using the healing properties of herbal oils, hot towels and both firm and gentle massage strokes to banish stored toxins.

Shared experiences…

“We began, and the process and benefits of the massage were explained (immediately, I felt cared for). A short but meaningful blessing was offered with the traditional Bindi applied to the forehead to represent protection. The 90 minute long massage focused on the back but also covered legs, arms and head. It was a beautiful flowing massage. Saroj seemed to intuitively know where to go strong and when to go gently.”

Holistic: it’s just another word for ‘life knowledge’

At Prana, every massage treatment is a holistic experience. From the moment you are greeted at the door (a courtesy itself fast becoming a rarity) to the moment you leave, you are welcomed and nurtured. Every step and detail is carefully considered… from a restorative chai, a place to store your clothes and jewellery, to music and a relaxing ambience.

THIS is your time. Enjoy, and feel free to doze… (a bell is placed within arm’s reach to call us before we give you a final wipe down with hot towels). When you are ready to leave and re-connect with the outside world, refresh the senses with filtered water and our complimentary fresh fruit.

We are connected to you, as we are to all humanity. It is just the Prana way.
