5 ways to know you’ve chosen the right Beauty Salon
Your skin is precious – be choosy about who treats it! Prana proudly sets high professional and personal standards for itself, but in a largely unregulated industry, how do you know which beauty salon is the right one for you?
Here are 5 important reasons to know when you’re in safe, caring and professional hands…
First impressions matter
It takes just a quick glance, maybe 3 seconds, to evaluate a beauty salon when you visit for the first time, and the impression you form is (or should be) very important to its owners.
Do staff greet you warmly and make you comfortable, perhaps even offering you light refreshments? Or are you left to your own devices while they busy themselves with other matters?
What is the general tone of the salon? Does it seem disorganised – or calm, professional and focused on its clients? The answer to these initial questions will tell you much about the relationship and level of service you’re likely to have with this salon.
Cleanliness and hygiene matter
The workspace tells you a lot about the people behind the salon, because if they don’t respect their workspace it’s unlikely they’ll respect you.
Take a look around. Look in the corners, above your head and areas like stairwells. Here’s where you’ll see how diligent they are about cleanliness and hygiene.
A good salon will be very particular about keeping their instruments sterile, their cloths and towels etc. washed and replenished for each client. Is the air fresh and pleasant? Are the floors, walls, display shelves and equipment scrupulously clean?
Remember too that since therapists work with people close up, their own personal hygiene and presentation really matters. Your nose will provide the answer to that one!
Devotion and attention matter
This goes to the heart of the deeply personal experience great salons want you to have. After all, who wants to feel as if they’re just another part on an assembly line? (Next!:-)
You should feel special, relaxed and pampered. You should feel as if you have entered a sanctuary (even, as we have experienced, that clients are so relaxed that they actually fall asleep during or after treatments). You should feel truly honoured.
And finally, you should be confident that your therapist is ever watchful… wanting above all else to give you a period of rejuvenation, a deep contentment that prepares your mind and body for the outside world.
Professionalism matters, and so does our refusal to take shortcuts
Many fine people provide beauty treatments from home (we all have to start somewhere, after all). But your skin is precious – too precious to leave in inexperienced or unqualified hands, even if they were recommended to you by someone you trust.
Reputation is everything, and it cannot be faked. Professional salons will always give quality assurance guarantees, along with recompense in the rare event of adverse reactions.
Of the very best, you should expect the clear promise that they absolutely refuse to take shortcuts (whether that is in using inferior skincare products or equipment, in the salon cleanliness we mentioned above, in their staff selection and, most importantly, in their service to you).
Pre-treatment advice and aftercare support… matters
Your personal health, safety and well-being is (or should be) paramount, not just for the length of your visit, but for a reasonable period prior to and afterwards.
Look for a beauty salon that takes the time to advise you about any pre-treatment procedures, follows up with a simple post-treatment regimen, and has products on hand which you can purchase and take home.
For Prana, it is a matter of principle. Your beauty and wellbeing journey begins before you visit and continues beyond. As far as we are concerned you are in our care, full stop. We take our responsibility to you very seriously.
