An Affectionate Letter from a Mature Mother to her Grown Daughter

Darling,

How are you? Dad and the dogs still consume my days, bless them! As usual, I’ve been absolutely longing for some time to myself; and I did something about it… really!

Through the recommendation of Aunty Paula, I booked myself in at Prana in Applecross.

It’s run by a lovely couple – very gentle and genuine people, with a holistic approach to natural beauty treatments (that’s Saroj’s department) and fitness/health (Agnelo). Fortunately, it’s not one of those glitzy, fashionable places that usually leave me feeling cold.

I had the most beautiful afternoon. Firstly, I had a lovely cup of chai masala (spiced tea) while Saroj calmly explained the concept behind Prana: to be a restful, tranquil place – a kind of retreat where clients could experience something she called Ayurvedic care, which I believe is the Indian art of healing and prolonging life (I’m not sure that I understand it all completely yet).

She is a passionate cook too, and has been delighted to find that so many people want to learn how to create delicious vegetarian meals. Thought you might be interested in her recipes.

Where was I? Oh yes, then we went upstairs and to begin with, I had the best foot massage ever; complimentary too! I felt like a queen darling, with all the time in the world. All my stress seemed to melt away…

Saroj took her time and before you know it I had sort of drifted off. Rousing, I apologised but she just smiled and said, “You’re not here to entertain me. You’re here for you. I shall be happy if you enjoy every moment”.

Truly, you would not believe this place… it’s so different. No rushing to get from one client to the next. No distractions and girly gossip, no small-talk required. What a treasure!

Oh and I had one their facials, the Gold one I think, which is designed for mature skins. Pure decadence… organic herbs and pure 24 carat gold leaf which melts into the skin to leave it radiant and freshly hydrated. My skin felt so soft and smooth; clearer than I can ever remember!

Are you envious darling? Don’t be. Mark this down for our next day out together; my treat!

As always,
your loving Mother.
