beauty for ageing women: mirror mirror on the wall

Mirror, mirror, on the wall…

Saroj I am in my late twenties and have trained in the aged-care sector. Geriatric nursing is a rewarding profession but I am now seriously considering training as a beauty therapist so that I can refocus my efforts on promoting and prolonging wellness. I believe a different approach would prolong their sense of self and keep many older people out of aged-care institutions and hospitals. My question is this: in your experience, does beauty therapy really make a difference to ageing women?

Many thanks, Sandra.

Do you see what I see?

Sandra firstly I am thrilled that you see what I see… the prolonging of wellness as important as remedial care. Normally I would ask for empathy (in any circumstance) but in your case that is already apparent. To you I would therefore say…

Training is implicit, but so too is empathy…

Yes, absolutely beauty therapy makes a difference to the physical and emotional wellbeing of everyone and whilst to some extent the question of age is irrelevant – for elderly women my experience is that what we learn from the treatments themselves ‘in situ’ so to speak tells us all we need to know as therapists. Yes, we must have the required training and knowledge. But other than that we as therapists are in the business of healing through instinct, respect, watchfulness and empathy.

Beauty is ageless!

Sandra many of my clients are over 60 and that in and of itself requires not only all of the above but an understanding that we are dealing with delicate skin tissue. As such, my primary intent is to administer natural Ayurvedic applications… ergo: do no harm. My secondary intent is to do exactly what you articulated Sandra… prolong wellness and engagement with life.

We should speak… please call me. I am ready to be in service to you. Saroj.
